The Lord's Day
Throughout the centuries Christians have worshipped on Sunday, the first day of the week. Christians worship on this day because Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, arose from the dead on this day. Christians even call Sunday “the Lord’s Day.”
The two most important events in human history took place during Holy Week and these two events are the crucifixion of Jesus and the resurrection of Jesus. Jesus died on a Roman cross and his death provided the means of grace and forgiveness for all who are saved. Jesus rose from the dead on Sunday morning and his resurrection conquered sin and death and hell. Today, one can find a cross displayed in almost any Christian setting and the cross is the universal symbol of the Christian faith. Today, one can attend Sunday worship in every place that Christians are found and Sunday is the universal day of Christian worship.
When I gave my heart and life to Jesus and he forgave my sins and saved me, I forever wanted to worship and serve my Lord Jesus. I wanted to worship every Sunday with others who loved the Lord Jesus and so it shall be until I see him face to face in glory. Keeping the Lord’s day is one of the ways that I honor Jesus as my Lord.

I Serve the Lord by Serving at the Home
The Church of the Brethren Home has a special place in my heart and in my life. Over thirty years ago, I was asked to go along with a group of ladies from our church to do hair at the Home’s Beauty Shop. I really didn’t care to fix other people’s hair, but I decided I would go this one time, for they were short-handed. I soon realized that their hair was just part of the reason to go. The other was to give the residents “personal attention” and show “loving kindness”.
I attended Auxiliary meetings as Key Lady for our church and was truly impressed with all the good they were able to accomplish for the residents! I often prayed that I would be able to help in any way I could. March 2, 2004, the treasurer of the Auxiliary died unexpectedly and I was asked to take over her duties. The first year was challenging for I had no idea of the responsibilities. I so appreciate all the people and churches (over seventy) working together in various ways to improve the lives of the residents at the Home, before they leave for their heavenly home!
God’s Blessings,
April Mackell
